Event which carries highest prize money being organised by PTF

KARACHI: Country’s leading tennis players will assemble in Islamabad later this month to compete in Aisam-ul-Haq Trophy which is being held under the aegis of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) at its complex from July 18.

“The event, which carries highest ever prize money, is being organised by the PTF to pay respect to the legendary player,” a top official of the PTF said.

Pakistan team currently featuring in the Davis Cup against South Korea on the latter’s soil, returns on Monday.

“PTF and the people of Pakistan admire the achievements of Aisam for doing his country proud,” president of the PTF, Syed Kaleem Imam, told Dawn.

He said PTF has also decided to name the centre court of the PTF complex after the legendary player in recognition of his feats.

“In addition, the PTF has decided in principle to name the nine other courts of the PTF complex after outstanding tennis players of the yore,” he added.

The PTF chief disclosed that he would soon form a committee entrusted with the task to pick the best nine players.

To a question, he said approximately a sum of rupees one million including prize money, would be incurred on the Aisam-ul-Haq trophy.

Meanwhile, the PTF official was conferred Ph.D degree in public administration by International Islamic University, Islamabad, earlier this week.
